Kerala tribal booth achieves first 100 pc electoral roll revision in single day

In the remote Attappadi tribal region of Palakkad, a small voting booth reached a historic milestone on November 8 — it completed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in just one day. All 65 registered voters at the Singampara Muthikulam polling station were covered, making it the first booth in Kerala to hit full coverage in a single day.
The success came thanks to a team of dedicated officials and students. Six girls from the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Arts and Science College in Attappadi traveled more than 120 km to help with the revision. The club’s coordinator, final‑year student S Anandhu, said the club had been working in the tribal belt for over five years, aiming for 100 % voter turnout in every booth in Attappadi.
BLO Kunjumon Thomas, who also teaches at a local school, confirmed that all 65 voters in the 36 houses were successfully updated. “The residents cooperated and participated without hesitation,” he said. “They’re normally very active in every election.”
To keep the process smooth, the team worked from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, waiting for voters to return from daily work. This effort was part of Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U Kelkar’s larger drive to boost tribal voter participation. Kelkar mailed a letter on November 3 to the leaders (mooppan) of each tribal settlement in Attappadi, urging full participation. Palakkad Deputy Collector N Sajid delivered the letter to the settlement head, who read it aloud to the community.
District Master Trainer T Sathyan said the goal is to finish SIR across all of Attappadi by December 4. With Kerala’s local‑body elections scheduled for December and the assembly polls set for April 2026, securing accurate rolls in this remote area is critical for fair representation.
