Telkom Indonesia to spin off wholesale fibre connectivity business in $2.16 billion deal

Telkom Indonesia, the country’s largest telecom operator, is set to separate its wholesale fibre‑connectivity arm into a new, independent business. The move is part of a $2.16 billion deal that will give the company fresh capital to boost its network and product offerings.

Under the agreement, Telkom will sell a controlling stake in the new fibre‑connectivity company to outside investors. The sale is expected to raise enough cash for Telkom to expand its 5G rollout, upgrade infrastructure in rural areas, and invest in emerging technologies that will keep the group competitive in Indonesia’s fast‑growing digital market.

Industry experts say the spin‑off will benefit customers by creating a dedicated, specialized provider of wholesale fibre services. The new entity will focus on high‑speed, low‑latency connections for businesses, network operators and data centres. Telkom’s move is part of a broader strategy to unlock value in its infrastructure assets and support the country’s push toward a digital economy.
