Timothy Shane, a 5‑foot‑9 white man with a buzz cut, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta around 8 p.m. on Sunday after a suicide attempt. Authorities noted his history of escape attempts and prior felony drug and weapons charges.
In the very early hours of Monday, Shane slipped away from the hospital on foot, reportedly seized an SUV that was parked nearby, and drove briefly before crashing the vehicle. After the mishap, he fled once again on foot, as reported by the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.
The owner of the SUV later discovered that a Glock handgun was missing from the vehicle. The sheriff’s office has released a statement saying, “He should be considered ‘armed and dangerous’. Our agency, along with other assisting agencies, have multiple units in the area searching for inmate Shane.”
Shane was last seen wearing a blue hospital gown, barefoot, and appears with a no‑shoes gait factor.
Grady Memorial Hospital has a policy that requires custodial law enforcement to maintain “one‑to‑one oversight” of any inmate being treated there, according to reports.
The sheriff’s office has not provided new information about the ongoing search as of Monday evening.
