Rahul Gandhi arrived in Amritsar on Monday to check on the flood-hit areas in Punjab. As the Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, he’s visiting the worst-affected spots to see the damage firsthand and support the people there.
Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring called the floods a “man-made disaster.” He slammed the AAP government, saying, “When Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited, he just pointed fingers instead of helping. AAP isn’t doing anything for Punjab’s flood victims.”
On the government side, Punjab’s Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian stepped in over the weekend. He ordered officials to handle relief work transparently and quickly, making sure no family misses out on compensation. This follows Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s promise: every flood-affected person in Punjab will get their money within 45 days. Mundian stressed that this compensation is a right, not a handout.
Here’s what families and farmers can expect under the Punjab flood relief scheme:
– Rs 20,000 per acre for lost crops
– Rs 1,20,000 for fully damaged houses
– Rs 40,000 for partially damaged homes
– Livestock losses covered too, like Rs 37,500 for a cow or buffalo, and Rs 4,000 for a goat
In other updates, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in Chandigarh. They talked about the Punjab flood situation, including damage to lives, homes, crops, and animals, and how relief operations are going.
The floods have hit hard across Punjab. Over 1.98 lakh hectares of crops are damaged, with big losses in districts like Gurdaspur (40,169 hectares), Fazilka (25,182 hectares), Kapurthala (17,574 hectares), Patiala (17,690 hectares), Ferozepur (17,257 hectares), and Tarn Taran (12,828 hectares). Sadly, the death toll from these Punjab floods has climbed to 56.
As recovery efforts continue, leaders from all sides are focusing on helping the affected families get back on their feet. Stay tuned for more on the Punjab flood relief updates.
