Winter National Bridge C’ship: Team Hemant, S D Associates, Easy Bridge enter semis of Seniors Team Event
Kolkata – December 3 (LatestNewsX) – Team Hemant Jalan, together with Easy Bridge, S D Associates and COGITO, made the semifinals of the seniors team event (over 60 years) at the 67th Ashok Ruia Memorial Winter National Bridge Championship, which began this week at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, Kolkata.
In the quarterfinals, Team Hemant Jalan – boasting a full roster of internationals – met expectations by defeating the formidable Shree Cement 83–76 IMPs. Easy Bridge also performed strongly, beating Team Dr. SSM with a decisive 114–40 IMPs win.
The other two quarterfinals were equally thrilling: COGITO edged out Team Juthika 63–49 IMPs, while S D Associates dominated USBC 124.5–39 IMPs.
Looking ahead to the last‑four, Team Hemant Jalan will square off against S D Associates, and Easy Bridge will face COGITO. The mixed pairs competition kicked off on Wednesday, with 26 of the 55 pairs progressing to Thursday’s final round and the seniors team title match.
Earlier on Tuesday, Vidhya Patel and Kalpana Gurjar from Raibidpura, Madhya Pradesh, added another accolade to their résumé by clinching the Amla Ruia Women Pairs title on the second day of the Winter National Bridge Championship. The pair had previously won the National Ladies Pairs Event in Chennai earlier this year. Vidhya and Kalpana finished with 57.42 IMPs, narrowly beating Rekha Mody and Vandana Toulidas, who collected 56 IMPs and took the runner‑up spot. Sangeeta Mohta and Barsha Khattry rounded out the podium with 26.89 IMPs in third place.
With this triumph, 25‑year‑old Vidya has earned praise that will be reflected in the “Best Junior Girls Player in 2025” award, to be presented by the Bridge Federation of India during the ongoing championship.
