Excitement is building for the return of the Hong Kong Sixes cricket tournament. Organizers announced the 2025 edition on Tuesday at the Conrad Hotel. The fast-paced event will run from November 7 to 9 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong.
This cricket extravaganza stands out with its unique six-a-side format and a rich 33-year history. Top global stars like those from India and Australia have lit up the field for decades, and the tournament has launched careers of many rising talents. This year, fans can look forward to even more thrills, including a special Community Fan Park over the weekend.
Burji Shroff, Chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China, shared his passion for the event. “The Hong Kong Sixes is more than just cricket,” he said. “It captures our community spirit, the love for the sport, and celebrates Hong Kong itself. It brings people together from all backgrounds, building camaraderie among fans and players. We highlight our athletes’ skills alongside the city’s vibrant culture and heritage.”
Shroff also thanked the government for granting M Mark status and funding support for the second straight year through the Major Sports Events Committee.
Wilfred Ng, Chairman of the Major Sports Events Committee, added, “We’re thrilled to back Cricket Hong Kong, China in hosting this international cricket event. It gives local players a chance to shine at home and lets the public enjoy top-level action. This builds our sports culture, boosts community pride, and helps position Hong Kong as a hub for major global sports events.”
Anuraag Bhatnagar, Director of Marketing and Commercial at Cricket Hong Kong, China, emphasized the star power. “With legends and young stars from 12 international teams, the talent on display will be unmatched,” he said. “Expect record-high excitement in the cricket matches. Partnering with SONY SPORTS for broadcasts, we’re aiming for a huge global TV and streaming audience. It’s a big cricket tournament that also puts Hong Kong on the world stage.”
Rajneesh Chopra, Co-Founder of Arivaa Sports—the event’s commercial partner—echoed the enthusiasm. “We’ve followed the Hong Kong Sixes for years, and in India, it’s tied to the city’s image,” he noted. “It’s an international event with real legacy and global growth potential for cricket. We’re excited to partner up.”
The 12 teams include cricket powerhouses like world No. 1 India, No. 2 Australia, and hosts Hong Kong, China, along with Pakistan, England, South Africa, and others.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club, as the official community partner, is teaming up for the Jockey Club Hong Kong Cricket Sixes Community Programme. It promotes inclusive cricket with activities like a master class and sports and cultural booths. For the first time, Cricket Hong Kong, China is setting up four interactive booths at the venue, featuring mini-cricket experiences. These aim to welcome everyone, including ethnic minorities and underprivileged groups, to try the sport.
The program also provides free tickets to people with disabilities and underprivileged community members, ensuring they can enjoy this high-quality M Mark event and learn about cricket.
Teams are divided into four pools:
– Pool A: South Africa, Afghanistan, Nepal
– Pool B: Australia, England, UAE
– Pool C: India, Pakistan, Kuwait
– Pool D: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, China
The top two teams from each pool advance to the quarterfinals. Quarterfinal winners head to the Cup semifinals, while losers go to the Plate semifinals. The bottom team per pool enters the Bowl competition. All told, 29 matches will unfold over the three days.
Each game lasts six overs, with six players per team. Bowlers deliver one over each—except the wicketkeeper—with one bowler handling two overs to keep the action nonstop.
