Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport has launched a new, cutting-edge Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT) that promises to change the way goods are handled in the region. Covering over 20,000 square metres, this modern cargo facility is designed to boost capacity and efficiency. It can now handle up to 200,000 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo each year, a huge upgrade from the older terminal that managed just 50,000 MT annually.
This new ICT is a major step forward for cargo transportation in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. It’s built to make cargo processing faster, more reliable, and easier for businesses. The facility includes top-notch security features like CCTV cameras, controlled access, and advanced screening systems to ensure safety and transparency.
The terminal uses innovative technology such as Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at truck gates, handheld terminals for staff, and barcode tracking. These systems give real-time updates and full visibility to logistics companies, making the supply chain smoother and more connected.
A special cold-chain zone has been created to keep temperature-sensitive products fresh, like medicines and fresh produce. Plus, the terminal features high dock counts, ball transfer decks, and automated equipment to boost efficiency during busy periods.
The ICT at SVPI Airport is a high-tech hub that combines great infrastructure with digital processes. It handles a wide range of cargo, from e-commerce shipments, automotive parts, and pharmaceuticals to valuables and perishable items. The region’s top exports include engineering goods, garments, and chemicals.
The facility is also ready to support emerging sectors, managing high-value and specialized cargo such as temperature-controlled shipments, electronic components, oversized equipment, live animals, and popular fast-moving e-commerce consignments.
SVPI Airport is committed to ongoing investment in better infrastructure, digital systems, and connectivity options to make cargo movement faster, cheaper, and more dependable. This effort aims to give industries in Gujarat a significant boost and strengthen the region’s logistics ecosystem.
Managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, part of Adani Enterprises, Ahmedabad International Airport continues to grow. In the 2024-25 period, the airport handled over 13 million passengers and managed nearly 280 daily air traffic movements — highlighting its importance in regional and international travel.
With this new cargo terminal, Ahmedabad is stepping into a new era of efficient, modern logistics, supporting the city’s development and industrial growth.
