In the thrilling final group stage match of the Asia Cup in Abu Dhabi, Oman put up a brave fight against cricket powerhouse India but fell short by 21 runs. Chasing a tough target of 189, the Oman team showed real grit, going head-to-head with the world champions. Though they couldn’t clinch the win, their performance left everyone impressed.
After the match, as players caught their breath, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav made a special visit to the Oman camp. Oman skipper Jatinder Singh later shared how this unexpected pep talk lit up the room. “Suryakumar just dropped by and chatted with the boys,” Jatinder told reporters at the post-match press conference. “He talked about the game and how to approach T20 cricket. Everyone was asking questions to get that clarity of thought. He praised the team a lot—it meant the world to us.”
The informal huddle saw Oman players hanging on to Suryakumar’s every word. Some beamed with smiles, while others listened intently as he highlighted their strong showing, win or lose. True to his gentlemanly style, Suryakumar stuck around for selfies, autographs, and a group photo before heading to the presentation.
Jatinder couldn’t hide his gratitude. “So thankful he came,” he said. This heartwarming moment on the green field reminded everyone of the sportsmanship in cricket. Even before Jatinder could dive into reflections on Oman’s valiant effort, former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar gave him a warm hug, drawing cheers and “awws” from the crowd.
Suryakumar didn’t hold back his admiration either. “Oman played an unbelievable brand of cricket,” he said. “It was amazing—I really enjoyed watching them bat.” Moments like these show why cricket brings teams together, no matter the scoreboard.
