Good news for car buyers in India! Renault India has announced a big cut in the prices of its popular cars. This move comes after the government introduced GST 2.0, and Renault is passing the full benefits directly to customers. Now, car enthusiasts can enjoy more affordable prices on some of their favorite models.
Renault has reduced prices on three key models: the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger. The discount is significant, with savings going up to ₹96,395! The updated prices will be effective from September 22, but you can start booking at these new rates right now at Renault dealerships.
Here’s what the new prices look like:
– Renault Kwid now starts at just ₹4,29,900 (ex-showroom)
– Renault Triber and Kiger both start at ₹5,76,300 (ex-showroom)
Company officials say this price drop is their way of supporting customers and making cars more accessible, especially during the festive season. “Passing on the full GST 2.0 benefit shows our commitment to our customers,” said Venkatram Mamillapalle, Managing Director of Renault India.
This move follows Tata Motors’ decision to pass on the GST benefits too. Tata has announced lower prices for models like the Tiago and Nexon, with reductions of up to ₹75,000 and ₹1,55,000 respectively.
So, what’s changing with GST 2.0? The new tax structure now applies a GST rate of either 18% or 40% on internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. Smaller cars such as hatchbacks and compact SUVs are taxed at 18%, while larger and luxury vehicles face the 40% slab. Previously, ICE vehicles were taxed at 28% plus an additional cess based on engine size.
Electric vehicles (EVs), on the other hand, continue to enjoy a lower GST rate of just 5%. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) also saw a reduction from 12% down to 5%.
Many major automakers like Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, and others are expected to follow Renault and Tata’s lead by reducing prices before September 22. This fresh wave of price cuts makes buying new cars more affordable just in time for the festive season.
