Dhanush Shares Heartfelt Story Behind His Directorial ‘Idli Kadai’
Actor and director Dhanush recently opened up about his upcoming film Idli Kadai at its audio launch event in Chennai. He called it a deeply personal project and dropped a sweet surprise: his grandmother made her acting debut in one of the scenes!
"This is a personal film for me," Dhanush shared. "My grandma—my mom’s mom—has acted in a scene in this film." Fans are already buzzing about this family touch in the movie.
Dhanush dove deeper into the film’s core message, urging everyone to hold on to their roots. "What defines your identity?" he asked. "Sure, acing your studies, landing a great degree, and scoring a top job boosts your status in society. But your true identity comes from your ancestral roots."
He explained how we must keep the stories of our fathers, grandfathers, and ancestors alive. "Their lives shouldn’t just fade away. They need to live on as memories for the next generations. We worship the spirit of our ancestors alongside the deities of our land. Take your family to pray at those ancestral temples—don’t forget the important things."
Dhanush drew a beautiful analogy: "Like a bird that flies off for food but always returns to its nest, no matter where life takes us for work, we should never lose sight of where we came from and how we lived. That’s the big takeaway from Idli Kadai."
