Agartala, Nov 24 (LatestNewsX) – Chief Minister Manik Saha told reporters this Monday that his administration is focused on making sure the benefits of development schemes from both the central and state governments actually reach the most remote communities.
He highlighted that Tripura has just been awarded seven national-level Panchayat Awards for outstanding work at the local level and reiterated that the state government prioritises holistic rural progress.
During a launch of several new projects at Pragya Bhavan, the capital, Saha walked attendees through programmes such as the Chief Minister Gram Sampak Yojana, the Chief Minister Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana 2.0, and Mega Griha Pravesh. “One of the objectives of such programs is to work for the common man. It is very important to ensure that the benefits of government projects reach the last person in society. The Rural Development Department works as a nodal department to implement various schemes of the central and state governments,” he told the function.
He added that the state also implements several externally funded schemes. The Rural Development Department plays a key role in sectors such as employment generation, sanitation, capacity building, infrastructure development, and the socio‑economic uplift of women. “Basically, these works are implemented through the District Magistrates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasised the importance of development reaching the last person,” he further explained.
Saha noted that Tripura had secured a total of seven Panchayat Awards, representing a cumulative prize money of about Rs 10 crore. He recalled hearing praise for the state at the oath‑taking ceremony of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other ministers on 20 November. “During the oath‑taking ceremony of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other Ministers on November 20, I heard praise about Tripura. And that is possible because of the efforts of all of you,” he said.
At the same event, the Chief Minister announced that the government now has the capacity to provide roofs for the common people, thanks to support from Prime Minister Modi. He stressed the commitment to improving the social standing and future prospects of people in rural hills, noting that 75 % of Tripura’s population resides in countryside areas. He mentioned having spoken with tribal officials to address critical development issues in those areas and underscored the need for sustained attention to rural communities.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary of the Rural Development Department Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary Kuntal Das, Director of the Panchayat Department Prasun De, and other officials were present.
