Actor Sonu Sood showed up at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in New Delhi on Wednesday for questioning over the alleged 1xBet betting app scandal. He arrived early in the morning with his lawyers by his side, ready to face the probe.
Just a day earlier, on September 23, former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh sat down with ED investigators in the same case. The agency is digging deep into possible money ties and promotions linked to 1xBet, a platform that’s caught the eye of authorities for breaking India’s Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and other rules.
ED officials say these sessions with celebrities like Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh, and now Sonu Sood are key steps in their ongoing investigation. They’ll decide on next moves based on what comes out of the interviews and a close look at financial trails.
Investigators suspect some stars might have given the banned 1xBet app a boost by promoting or endorsing it indirectly, helping it seem legit to users in India. The app faces accusations of money laundering, tax dodging, and even manipulating its systems to cheat players.
This 1xBet case has been bubbling for years. Authorities claim the platform sneaked into India through fake websites and overseas setups to target local bettors illegally.
