IANS Year Ender 2025: Bihar declared Maoist-free as major crimes show sharp decline

Bihar Police Claims State Is Now Naxal‑Free as Crime Falls

Patna, Dec. 27 – Bihar police officials announced this week that the state has eradicated Maoist influence and that major crimes—including murder, robbery, and riots—have dropped noticeably.

While briefing reporters at the Police headquarters, Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Chaudhary and Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar highlighted the role of stringent policing, advanced technology, and coordinated anti‑crime drives in sustaining law and order.

Naxalism Vanquished

DGP Vinay Kumar declared that every district in Bihar is now free of Naxalism. He cited the arrest of 220 Maoists during the year, with one fatal encounter, as evidence of the force’s effectiveness in former Maoist hotspots.

Crime Declines

Police data show notable reductions in serious offenses. Murder cases fell by 7.72 percent, robbery incidents dropped 24.87 percent, and riots declined 17.97 percent. The DGP credited focused policing strategies and preventative measures for these gains.

In total, the state’s law‑enforcement agency apprehended 335,000 suspects in serious crimes—including murder, robbery, dacoity, rape, and kidnapping—over the past year.

Asset Seizure and Anti‑Organised Crime

In a concerted effort to dismantle criminal financial power bases, the Police and Home Department seized property linked to 70 criminals. They earmarked assets of 1,419 offenders for confiscation and forwarded 405 related cases to court. DGP Kumar stressed that these actions are key to crippling organised crime and mafia networks.

Enforcement of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The state has broadly implemented the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Under Section 126, preventive orders were issued to 1.25 million individuals, preventing potential criminal conduct across Bihar.

Prohibition and Cybercrime Control

Law enforcement remained rigorous on prohibition enforcement, seizing 1.679 million litres of country liquor and 1.651 million litres of foreign liquor during state‑wide raids. On the digital front, 103 cybercrime investigations were conducted, with actions taken based on technical and digital evidence.

Women’s Safety Initiatives

DGP Vinay Kumar announced the formation of an “Abhaya Brigade” aimed at bolstering women’s security. The police plan to acquire roughly 2,000 scooters for female officers, who will be stationed in coaching institutes, colleges, public venues, and high‑traffic areas. The initiative is designed to enable swift response and enhance safety for women across the state.

Future Policing Focus

Senior officials reaffirmed that crime control, anti‑mafia operations, and public safety remain the government’s priorities. The DGP pledged further measures to make policing more efficient, transparent, and technology‑driven in the years ahead.
