In Chennai, the award‑winning Tamil film Kinaru will open in theaters on November 14 to mark Children’s Day. The film, backed by producers Suriya Narayanan and Vinod Sekar, is presented by Madras Stories, a production house known for titles like Burkha and Lineman.
A star‑studded premiere took place in Chennai last week, drawing top film personalities who sat down to watch the movie alongside 30 children. Everyone at the event praised the team for creating a heartfelt story that resonates with audiences of all ages.
Kinaru has earned six international honors, including Best Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Direction at the Pegasus Film Festival 2024, the Accolade Global Film Competition, and the IndieFEST Film Awards. It was also selected for the World Cinema Competition section at the Chennai International Film Festival 2024.
Director Harikumaran says the film explores “childhood, friendship, faith, and family bonds.” It follows four village kids who, after being barred from playing near a neighbour’s well, decide to dig their own well, overcoming many obstacles. “It’s a story told through the eyes of children,” Harikumaran notes. “Kinaru isn’t just for kids—it’s a gentle, humorous family film that everyone can enjoy.”
The movie’s striking visuals come from cinematographer Gautham Venkatesh, while the score was crafted by Bhuvanesh Selvanesan. Editing is handled by K.S. Gautham Raj, with sound mixing by Daniel and sound design by Kishore Kamaraj.
