Union Minister Meets Punjab Governor to Tackle Flood Crisis in Punjab
In a key meeting in Chandigarh, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu visited Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Punjab Raj Bhavan on Saturday. The two leaders dove deep into the ongoing flood situation in Punjab and the relief efforts underway to help affected families.
They discussed quick actions to support flood victims and bring back normal life in the hardest-hit areas. The talks also focused on assessing damage to homes, crops, livestock, and even lives lost due to the floods.
Bittu updated the Governor that central government teams have already surveyed the flood-affected regions in Punjab to calculate the exact losses. This will ensure fair compensation reaches everyone soon. He promised full support from the Union Government for rebuilding and rehabilitation in Punjab’s flood-hit districts. "No family will be left out in this tough time," Bittu assured.
Governor Kataria praised the joint efforts of the Punjab state government and the Centre. He stressed that fast, coordinated help is crucial to ease the suffering of Punjab’s people amid the flood crisis.
Earlier in the day, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted the state government’s round-the-clock work under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. "Flood-affected people in Punjab don’t need to worry— we’ll compensate for every loss," Cheema said. He added that cabinet ministers and officials are on the ground helping victims and will stay committed until things return to normal.
Meanwhile, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur met with flood victims from around 20 villages, including Ram Singh Bhaini in Fazilka district. She heard their concerns firsthand and promised compensation even for farmers’ uncultivated land. The Girdawari assessment is already in progress to speed this up.
Kaur also donated Rs 2 lakh to the Chief Minister’s relief fund for Punjab flood victims. She shared good news on infrastructure, noting that road repairs have begun and transport services will resume soon in the flood-affected areas.
These steps show a united front against the Punjab floods, with both state and central governments stepping up for quick relief and recovery.
