Madrid, Nov 28 (LatestNewsX)—UN Tourism reports that the number of international arrivals kept rising into 2025. Its latest quarterly World Tourism Barometer, released Thursday, showed more than 1.1 billion international trips during the first nine months of the year, a rise of roughly 5 % from the same period in 2024, Xinhua news agency said.
In the Asia‑Pacific, visitor numbers went up 8 % from January to September, reflecting the region’s ongoing post‑pandemic rebound, though totals are still about 10 % lower than they were in 2019.
Africa saw a strong uptick in inbound visitors, with North Africa up 11 % and sub‑Saharan Africa up 10 %. Europe remained the largest global destination, welcoming 625 million arrivals in the same nine‑month span—4 % more than the previous year.
North America edged slightly down by about 1 %, whereas South America grew 9 % and Central America climbed 3 %, driven by robust demand in several key markets.
“International tourism has continued to experience sustained growth so far in 2025 in terms of international arrivals and, importantly, in receipts, despite high inflation in tourism services and geopolitical tensions. Africa and Europe in particular stand out for their results,” UN Tourism Secretary‑General Zurab Pololikashvili said in a press note.
UN Tourism projects overall growth of 3‑5 % for 2025 but cautions that geopolitical instability and rising costs could pose risks to the sector’s trajectory.
