RSS to hold centenary march in K’taka’s Chittapur today; security tightened

Bengaluru – Karnataka Police have wired up a tight security net for the centenary foot march of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) that will roll through Chittapur on Sunday. The march, a 1.5‑kilometre route starting at Bajaj Kalyan Mantap, will begin at 3:30 p.m. and finish by 5 p.m. It will feature 350 uniformed RSS members, including 50 band players.

The march was contested when local authorities in Chittapur, a town in Kalaburagi district, first rejected the RSS’s request. The Court later ruled that the state government, led by the Congress, could grant permission. Prime Minister‑son Priyank Kharge, who represents the Chittapur assembly seat, had earlier asked the chief minister to ban RSS activities in public spaces, prompting a temporary order that was later stayed by the High Court.

Police moved quickly to secure the route. A platoon of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and the District Armed Reserve (DAR) now guard the start point at Bajaj Kalyan Mantap. In total, about 650 police officers and 250 home guards will patrol Chittapur. The Superintendent of Police, the Additional SP, and the Deputy SP are monitoring the situation closely. CCTV and drone cameras add extra layers of surveillance.

The High Court, hearing the case on whether the RSS can march, has asked the state to consider all applications for foot marches. The Advocate General highlighted that conditions would be set before any march could proceed. A meeting with the RSS convenor, Ashok Patil, is set for November 5 to discuss the details.

With the security measures and legal approvals in place, the RSS group is set to start its centennial path on Sunday, drawing attention from both local communities and national media.
