Arunachal trading body hail GST reforms, express satisfaction after interacting with PM Modi in Itanagar

Business leaders in Arunachal Pradesh cheered the latest GST reforms on Monday, calling them a big win for traders, shopkeepers, and everyday consumers. The changes, rolled out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, simplify the Goods and Services Tax system into just two slabs—5% and 18%—making life easier for businesses and buyers alike.

Tarh Nachung, president of the Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACC&I), shared his excitement after a 25-minute chat with PM Modi in Itanagar. “This interaction will boost local trade and business,” Nachung said. He pointed out how the GST rate cuts help everyone from insurance firms and construction workers to owners of private vehicles. Nachung also noted that the state government is spreading awareness about GST across all 28 districts, so even remote areas can reap the benefits.

The meeting kicked off as part of the “GST Bachat Utsav,” or GST Savings Festival, where PM Modi highlighted how the reforms ease costs for the poor, middle class, women, farmers, traders, and entrepreneurs. “Celebrate this grand festival,” he urged the crowd, promising it would mark a joyful milestone for India’s people.

Before the main event, PM Modi stopped by an exhibition showcasing local products from traders, craftspersons, and artisans. He chatted with them about the GST rate rationalization and its role in promoting Ease of Doing Business and a thriving startup scene.

At a massive public rally in Itanagar’s Indira Gandhi Park, PM Modi laid the foundation stones for 13 development projects worth over Rs 5,127 crore. He rallied the enthusiastic crowd with the slogan, “Garv se kahen, yeh swadeshi hai”—proudly say, this is indigenous. Thousands lit up their phone flashlights in response, creating a sea of lights.

PM Modi especially praised the strong turnout of women, congratulating them on the GST Savings Festival. He explained how the next-generation GST reforms cut taxes on key items, bringing real relief to household budgets. Essentials like kitchen supplies, kids’ school materials, footwear, and clothing are now cheaper. Plus, many everyday goods are tax-free, and taxes on others have dropped sharply.

Building a home, buying a scooter or bike, eating out, or hitting the road for travel—all feel more affordable now, the Prime Minister added. With the festive season underway, he called this a “double bonanza” for citizens, set to bring joy, prosperity, and success across India.
