Jelly Roll battled severe isolation and illness during grueling foreign tour: ‘I want to go home’

Jelly Roll says his latest tour has driven him to his limits. The 40‑year‑old country‑rock star admitted on the “No Filter with Kate Langbroek” podcast that he’s hit a low point on his music tour.

He was “doing the worst mentally I’ve done in a long time,” the “I Am Not Okay” singer said, while a week of performances across Australia left him feeling drained and far from home.

He joined the flight to Sydney with a packed schedule: six shows from Oct. 25 to Nov. 4 in his first Australian run. A planned finale in Auckland, New Zealand, on Nov. 8 was cancelled at the last minute because he fell ill. The cancellation was unusual for the touring artist, who rarely misses a performance.

During the podcast, Jelly Roll explained how the rigorous travel schedule and lack of tour‑bus support made the trip feel isolating. He said, “I’m having to be super isolated. I’m spending a lot of time in my hotel room by myself. I miss my family a ton.”

He kept himself afloat with breathing exercises and mental reminders, but the urge to return home felt strong. “Everybody wants to go home when they’re sick. I just don’t feel good, so I just want to go home,” he added.

The physical condition that plagued him also compromised his mental clarity. “When my stomach’s not right, nothing’s right. My mind’s not right. I can’t think clearly,” he said. He described the trip as “f—ked my stomach up,” which then added to his overall sense of distress.

Outside the music world, Jelly Roll faced another awkward moment in Sydney. He posted a video on social media at a Louis Vuitton store, claiming staff treated him as if he were about to rob the shop. “The Louis Vuitton employees in Sydney treated us like we were going to rob that place,” the singer said, wearing a backward cap on the clip.

He joked that the staff “looked at me like I was about to walk out a bank heist.” The incident sparked public discussion about security and visitor treatment in high‑profile stores.

Jelly Roll has long been open about his past challenges. He has spoken publicly about early legal troubles, an arrest at 16 on charges of aggravated robbery and possession with intent to sell, and the ensuing prison time and probation. He has also addressed struggles with addiction, describing how music helped him find a path forward.

The tour’s mix of physical strain, mental pressure and travel isolation has, for the first time in recent years, pushed the country‑rock star toward a personal breaking point. As he continues the cycle of touring, fans and health observers alike are watching closely to see how the artist will rebound from this tough stretch.
