A recent comment by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate has sparked a heated political debate in India. Shrinate made remarks about the people of Bihar that drew sharp criticism from the BJP, which accused her of showing a “feudal mentality.” The Congress responded by saying that the BJP is insulting Bihar and its people, especially when they are often mocked or looked down upon in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat.
In a video shared on social media by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, Shrinate is heard saying that people in Bihar are sweating and their clothes may not look very clean. She praised Rahul Gandhi for hugging and kissing the foreheads of Bihar’s people without fear, implying this showed kindness. However, critics saw her comments as disrespectful and condescending.
Amit Malviya slammed Shrinate, accusing Congress of mocking and insulting Bihar’s hardworking and honest people. He emphasized that Bihar has played a vital role in India’s development and independence and deserves respect, not mockery. Malviya argued that meeting the public should not be seen as a favor, and that the feudal attitude of looking down on common people must end. He added, “Bihar needs respect, not pity,” calling out the “casteist” mindset that some politicians seem to hold.
JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar also responded strongly. He called Shrinate’s remarks baseless, reminding everyone of Bihar’s contributions to India’s history and development. He pointed out that past comments from Congress leaders had also insulted Bihar, including calling it a “small state” or making inappropriate comparisons.
Meanwhile, the Congress hit back, with spokesperson Surendra Rajput criticizing BJP leaders like Malviya. He accused Malviya of hypocrisy, highlighting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also insults Bihar on occasion, and that BJP leaders often keep their distance from ordinary people by barricading themselves. Rajput warned that insulting Bihar would not go unanswered by its people.
The Samajwadi Party also stepped in to defend Shrinate. Spokesperson Dharmendra Singh said that the BJP-led government at the center has been the real insult to Bihar. He pointed out issues like the exploitation of votes from the poor and backward communities and criticized the failure to address migration and development problems, despite years in power.
This controversy highlights the ongoing political tensions over respect and perceptions of Bihar and its people. As leaders exchange accusations, many see it as a reflection of wider issues about dignity, development, and the true image of Bihar across India.
