MoS Margherita meets business community in Ecuador, discusses strengthening bilateral trade

Union Minister Pabitra Margherita met Quito’s business leaders on Thursday, sparking new talks about how India and Ecuador can grow trade ties. He posted on X that the meeting was “productive” and that he was “happy to meet representatives from the Ecuadorian business community.”
The minister arrived in Ecuador’s capital on Tuesday, marking his first visit to a Latin‑American country. While there, he will sit down with Ecuador’s top officials and open the new Indian embassy in Quito. “I’m looking forward to meeting Ecuador’s leaders and the business community,” Margherita said on X.
This stop is the first of a three‑country tour that will cover Bolivia and Cuba from November 4‑10. The Ministry of External Affairs said the trip will cover shared interests in trade, technology, tourism and development cooperation. It will also include a review of the Indian Mission’s readiness in Quito.
In Bolivia, Margherita is set to witness the inauguration of the newly‑elected president on November 8 in La Paz. In Cuba, officials will discuss deepening cooperation in health, digital infrastructure and capacity building.
The visit follows India’s long‑standing friendly relations with these nations and is part of a broader push for South‑South cooperation. The Ministry added that the minister’s presence will keep the momentum of political and economic engagement alive across the region.
