Knicks’ Miles McBride begins journey as a children’s author – and a dad
Miles “Deuce” McBride, the speedy New York Knicks guard, just had an unforgettable summer. He welcomed a baby daughter and launched his very own children’s book – all in the same whirlwind week. Talk about perfect timing!
McBride and his girlfriend, former West Virginia swimmer Ana Zortea, brought their little girl, Ace McBride, into the world in summer 2024. The name? It’s a fun match for her dad’s nickname, Deuce – like aces and deuces in cards. McBride couldn’t be happier. “It was crazy to release the book right when she was born,” he told The Post. “But it makes everything mean so much more. She’s growing up with a dad who did this, and hopefully, more books are coming.”
Just days after Ace’s arrival, McBride dropped his book on Amazon: “Deuce: The Champion of Friendship.” It’s a heartwarming story about basketball bringing kids together through teamwork and kindness. At 25, the Knicks point guard drew inspiration from NBA legend Kobe Bryant. McBride admits he wasn’t a huge Kobe fan as a kid, but Bryant’s post-retirement work – like his Mamba Academy for young players – changed that. “Kobe showed how to give back to the game and be a role model,” McBride said. “I’ve always wanted to inspire kids, and a children’s book felt like the perfect way to start building my legacy.”

McBride, now heading into his fifth NBA season with the Knicks, has been busy promoting the book. He’s visited classrooms for lively readings, with his next stop in his hometown of Cincinnati – where he went from high school quarterback star to pro basketball talent. More events are lined up at a Bronx school and a Manhattan hospital. Fans and teachers love it; some have bought bulk copies for their classes. “The response has been amazing,” McBride shared.

As Knicks training camp kicks off soon, McBride’s book tour pauses – but he’s not slowing down. The dad-of-one is already brainstorming his next children’s book project. Who knows? By the time Ace is a bit older, she might even get to read it with him. “I’m excited to see where this journey goes,” he said. For McBride, blending NBA life with family and storytelling is the real win.
