Inside the $5.2M home Austin Butler bought from Brad Pitt — just months after burglars broke in
Austin Butler Buys Brad Pitt’s Burglarized LA Home for $5.2 Million
Hey, Hollywood fans! If you’ve been following celebrity real estate drama, get this: Austin Butler, the breakout star from Elvis, just scored a major win by snapping up Brad Pitt’s stylish Los Angeles home. He paid a cool $5.2 million for the midcentury-modern gem, known as “The Steel House,” according to TMZ. The sale happened just three months after burglars hit the place, turning what could have been a headache into Butler’s new pad.
Picture this: a sleek, L-shaped house spanning 2,000 square feet in the trendy Los Feliz neighborhood. It screams minimalist chic with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let in tons of light, and killer views of the city. Inside, you’ll find terrazzo floors, exposed beam ceilings, and cozy cobalt blue carpeting in every bedroom. The kitchen and primary suite rock custom blue cabinetry, while the living and dining areas flow seamlessly for easy entertaining. There’s even a den and a balcony perfect for chilling.
But it’s not all indoors—the outdoor setup is a dream. Dive into the swimming pool, relax in the redwood hot tub, or sweat it out in the built-in sauna. Set on a hillside, this 1960s-inspired property feels like a retro escape with cantilevered eaves and that open, airy vibe.
Now, the backstory adds some spice. Brad Pitt only owned the house for about a year and a half. He bought it in April 2023 from Aileen Getty, the oil heiress from the famous Getty family. But things got rocky in late June when Pitt was in Tokyo promoting a project. Three burglars scaled the fence, smashed through the front windows, and ransacked the place for nearly 10 minutes, grabbing who-knows-what before bolting. Neighbors had been warning about the home’s lack of proper fencing and its visibility from the street—it was just too easy for intruders to spot.
The house didn’t have 24/7 security unless Pitt was staying there, and the neighborhood patrols had wrapped up their shift, leaving it vulnerable. After the break-in, Pitt beefed up security big time, but it might’ve pushed him to sell faster. Cops later arrested four suspects in August, linked to the crime through forensic evidence, though they were nabbed for a different attempted burglary.
Pitt didn’t waste time moving on. He upgraded to a secure $12 million Spanish-style estate in the Hollywood Hills, complete with top-notch privacy features and a killer security system. A source told the New York Post that Pitt wanted a spot that screams safety and seclusion—this one, once owned by The Killers guitarist Dave Keuning, fit the bill perfectly.
As for Austin Butler, he’s stepping into a Hollywood icon’s shoes with this purchase. The Elvis actor, fresh off his rise to fame, now owns a piece of LA luxury that’s equal parts cool design and cautionary tale. Who knows, maybe Butler will add his own flair to The Steel House.
