Dilip Joshi visits BAPS Mandir, offers prayers during Annakut celebration

Popular actor Dilip Joshi, best known for his role as Jethalal on the long‑running sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was seen in Mumbai’s Dadar district last night. He visited the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir to take part in the grand Annakut festival, a tradition that showcases a huge array of vegetarian offerings.

At the temple, Joshi told reporters that the celebration is a highlight of the year. This year, more than 2,500 dishes—pure vegetarian and lovingly prepared by BAPS devotees—were offered at the feet of the deity. He described the sight as a “heart‑warming experience” that filled the space with joy and devotion.

The actor noted that many of the dishes were made by the temple’s own “santo” (saints) and by everyday devotees. Each person brought one or two items from home to add to the festive spread, creating a generous display of faith and community spirit.

Joshi said watching the festival and seeing the offerings laid out was a rare opportunity for him, and he remarked how full the event was of “great happiness.” He thanked the devotees for their dedication and embraced the tradition with enthusiasm.

The BAPS temple’s Annakut celebration continues to draw visitors from all walks of life, offering a moment of shared faith and cultural richness in the heart of Mumbai.
