At least 2 people killed in Mexican Navy plane crash in Texas — 1-year-old medical patient was aboard
A small Mexican Navy aircraft carrying a 1‑year‑old medical patient and seven others crashed near Galveston, Texas, on Monday morning, killing at least two people, officials said.
Emergency responders pulled four survivors from the wreckage and have been searching for two more crew members still inside the plane, according to a statement from Mexico’s Navy posted on the social‑media platform X. The aircraft was part of a medical mission and was said to have experienced an “accident.”
The shipboard flight carried four Navy officers and four civilians. While the Navy has not yet identified which of the missing passengers were killed or missing, it confirmed that the crash took place near the base of a causeway about 50 miles southeast of Houston.
The Navy is coordinating with local authorities on the rescue effort. Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board teams are on the scene, and the Texas Department of Public Safety has tweeted the arrival of its units. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deployed a dive team, crime‑scene unit, drone squad, and patrol officers to the site.
Fog and limited visibility are being reported in the area and could have contributed to the incident. “The incident remains under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook, urging the public to stay away from the crash site to allow responders to work safely.
The island city of Galveston is a popular beach destination. While weather was not confirmed as a factor, fog has been lingering in the region for several days. National Weather Service meteorologist Cameron Batiste noted that at 2:30 p.m. on Monday a fog bank brought visibility down to about half a mile, and the fog is expected to linger through Tuesday morning.
