In Tadepalli, Andhra Pradesh, former MP and YSR Congress Party leader Margani Bharat fired sharp criticism at the TDP-led coalition government. He claims it’s turning the state into a police state by cracking down on social media activists with illegal arrests and fake charges.
Bharat shared alarming numbers from the past year: police arrested 282 activists, issued notices to 822 others, and locked up 86 on trumped-up accusations. “The government can’t handle tough questions about its failures,” he said. “Instead of owning up, they’re silencing voices through threats and bogus cases.”
He pointed to specific cases to back his claims. In Guntur, young activist Tharak Pratap Reddy faced arrest under serious Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections—usually reserved for criminals, kidnappers, and dacoits—just for speaking out online.
Then there’s Savindra Reddy, nabbed by police despite High Court orders warning against unlawful detentions. This shows the government’s blatant disregard for the judiciary, Bharat argued. Activist Bhargav got targeted too, and even family members suffered: Preeti, sister of activist Bharat Chandra, was held illegally to pressure her brother. “This is straight-up state-sponsored terror against anyone who dares to speak,” Bharat declared.
Bharat didn’t hold back on the mistreatment of Dalit activist Pulisagar in Rajahmundry. Police abused him and threw him in a cell for posting about flood damages. He also highlighted how officials like GST Assistant Commissioner Subhash Chandra Bose and RTC conductor Kusuma Kumari lost their jobs over simple social media comments.
Shifting gears, Bharat slammed TDP MLA Balakrishna for his crude remarks against YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during an Assembly session. “His language was vulgar, his behavior a total embarrassment,” Bharat said. He even joked that Balakrishna might need a breath analyzer before stepping into the House.
Bharat went after TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh too. He accused them of treating the “Red Book”—a supposed policy guide—like the new Constitution. Police act like TDP foot soldiers, he charged, raiding YSRCP leaders’ homes at midnight while protecting the ruling party’s troublemakers.
Finally, Bharat mocked the coalition’s “Super Six Success” celebrations as a “super fail.” He said the government has tanked on welfare promises, and leaders like Naidu and ally Pawan Kalyan will face the consequences for this undemocratic approach in Andhra Pradesh.
