Committed to social justice through governance, says Delhi CM Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta opened a brand‑new District Social Welfare Office on Tuesday, stressing that social justice isn’t just a slogan but the foundation of her team’s rule.

The new building sits right across from Azadpur Mandi in Indra Nagar, B‑Block, and will house all of Delhi’s key welfare services under one roof. Gupta said the priority is “to make sure no citizen—no matter their background—can be left out of government benefits.”

The office offers old‑age pensions, widow and disability support, scholarship schemes, handloom and handicraft aid, grant programmes and other social security benefits. With modern facilities, residents of 15 Assembly constituencies—including Rithala, Mundka, Kirari, Sultanpur Majra, Mangolpuri, Rohini, Shalimar Bagh, Shakur Basti, Tri Nagar, Narela, Burari, Adarsh Nagar, Bawana, Badli and Model Town—can now apply for help quickly and easily.

Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh, MLA Rajkumar Bhatia and several local dignitaries attended the ribbon‑cutting. Gupta explained that the new centre will process applications submitted through the e‑District Portal. Officers will review documents, confirm eligibility, and approve benefits, which are then sent directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). A help desk and public counters will provide extra support for applicants.

The new building cost about ₹2.14 crore. Previously the offices operated out of a cramped school building in Rohini, where space shortages made service delivery difficult. With two dedicated district offices now in place, the government can offer better facilities and faster service to Delhi’s most vulnerable.

This move marks a clear signal from the Delhi government that social justice and accessible welfare programs are at the heart of its governance model.
