Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim isn’t backing down from his football philosophy, even after a tough 0-3 loss to Manchester City in the Manchester Derby. The Red Devils put up a fight at the Etihad Stadium, but Phil Foden’s first-half header and Erling Haaland’s brace in the second half sealed the win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Amorim knows the pressure is on at Manchester United. “I get it – this isn’t the record you want at a club like ours,” he said. “There are so many things going on behind the scenes that you don’t know about, but I’m not changing my approach. If I decide to switch my philosophy, I will. Otherwise, it’s time to change the coach.”
This defeat adds to a shaky start for Manchester United in the 2024-25 Premier League season. They finished 15th last year and have only notched one win in their first four league matches this time around. Things got worse with an early exit from the Carabao Cup after losing to Grimsby Town in the second round.
The Portuguese manager had a heartfelt message for United fans too. “I know results shape everything in football, and ours aren’t reflecting the progress we’re making,” Amorim added. “I’m committed to giving my all for the club. The final call isn’t mine, but as long as I’m here, I’ll fight hard – and honestly, I’m hurting more than anyone out there.”
Looking ahead, Manchester United will host Chelsea in their next Premier League clash at Old Trafford next weekend. Fans are hoping for a turnaround in this Premier League season.
