Rain lashes several TN districts; heavy showers likely for next two days

Chennai Braces for More Rain: Heavy Showers Hit Tamil Nadu Districts

Hey folks, if you’re in Chennai or nearby, get ready for some moderate rainfall over the next couple of days. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has shared this update, and it looks like Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will see light to moderate showers continuing until September 13. Perfect timing for those craving a break from the heat!

Officials predict heavy rains in districts like Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, and Sivaganga on Monday and Tuesday. This comes after Sunday’s widespread downpours across several areas, bringing gusty winds and thunder that shook things up. Places like Ranipet, Arcot, Panapakkam, Nemili, Walajapet, Kaveripakkam, Sholinghur, and Arakkonam got hammered with heavy rain, disrupting daily life big time.

Farmers in Thanjavur, Tiruvaiyaru, Ayyampettai, Papanasam, Kumbakonam, and Thiruvidaimarudur breathed a sigh of relief as steady rainfall finally arrived to help with irrigation. They’ve been waiting for this boost for their crops! Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai districts also faced intense showers, complete with sudden thunder and lightning around Chidambaram and Sirkazhi. Residents shared how the rains replenished water sources, making everyone feel a bit more refreshed.

In Pudukkottai, suburban spots like Namanasamuthiram, Arimalam, and Alangudi saw heavy downpours too. Farmers called it a timely blessing for their standing crops. Sivaganga, which baked under sweltering daytime heat, cooled off nicely at night with showers in Tiruppattur, Singampunari, Nelkuppai, and Manamadurai, plus those strong winds.

Virudhunagar didn’t escape either, with widespread rainfall leading to power outages in Aruppukkott ai and nearby villages like Palayampatti, Sukilanatham, Hovhanki, and Panthalagudi. Fallen power lines from the gusts caused quite a stir. Over in Madurai city and areas like Tirupparankundram and Thirumangalam, things got messy as rainwater mixed with sewage flooded homes in Avaniyapuram, leaving locals frustrated.

On a brighter note, Kodaikanal enjoyed moderate showers that added to the misty charm—tourists loved boating in the cool weather! Puducherry faced heavy rain too, with waterlogging on main roads in Tavalakuppam, Embalam, and Pakoor. Commuters dealt with slow traffic and headaches getting around.

The weather office warns that heavy rainfall will stick around in western and southern Tamil Nadu districts for the next 48 hours. Chennai and surrounding areas can expect light to moderate showers, while interior spots might see isolated thunder and lightning. With rains forecast until September 13, authorities urge people in low-lying areas to stay alert. Farmers, take those precautionary steps to safeguard your crops—better safe than sorry!

Stay dry out there, and keep an eye on local updates for the latest Chennai weather forecast and Tamil Nadu rain alerts.
