Police in Ljubljana, Slovenia, confirmed that a 33‑year‑old American climber has passed away after reportedly falling off a trail in the Julian Alps. The man was last seen on Monday morning as he set out toward the country’s tallest summit, Mount Triglav, and then went missing, the STA news agency reported.
Authorities found the body near the base of a steep mountain path close to Pokljuka Plateau early Tuesday morning. Initial investigations indicate that he likely slipped down a sheer drop.
The man’s identity remains undisclosed, and his family has not yet released any details. According to police, the evidence points to an accidental fall rather than any other cause.
He was reportedly staying in a cabin near the picturesque Bohinj Lake at the time of his last known whereabouts. Slovenia continues to attract hikers and climbers from around the world, thanks to the variety of routes crisscrossing the Julian Alps.
