Counter-terrorist mock exercise at Delhi Airport to test crisis preparedness

Delhi Airport Conducts Major Counter-Terror Mock Drill to Boost Aviation Security

Delhi’s bustling Indira Gandhi International Airport turned into a high-stakes training ground on Sunday. Security forces from various agencies joined hands for a large-scale Joint Counter Terrorist Mock Exercise. This drill aimed to sharpen aviation security measures and test how teams handle real emergencies.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Quick Reaction Team led the action-packed simulation. Teams from Delhi Police, National Security Guard (NSG), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Delhi Traffic Police, Fire Services, medical units, and Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) all pitched in. The exercise kicked off with a simulated terror alert and moved into swift tactical moves to neutralize the threat.

After the intense session, everyone gathered for a detailed debrief. They discussed what went well and what needs tweaking to stay ahead of threats.

CISF shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account: "Such joint exercises are vital in testing real-time crisis response, sharpening inter-agency synergy, and reinforcing collective preparedness to counter emerging threats to aviation security." The drill didn’t just check combat skills—it also timed how fast teams communicated, made decisions, and deployed on the ground.

Don’t worry, travelers! Airport operations ran smoothly throughout, and officials informed passengers ahead of time to prevent any hassle.

Security experts say these aviation security drills are a must in today’s world, with global terror threats on the rise and airports facing new challenges. Regular practice helps ground teams, intelligence units, and crisis managers work like a well-oiled machine.

CISF reaffirmed its dedication to top-notch security at India’s busiest airport. This ensures everyone feels safe while flying, building trust in the country’s aviation safety setup.

This isn’t a one-off—back in June 2025, a similar joint mock drill happened in Bengaluru. The Karnataka State Police’s ‘Garuda Force’ teamed up with the 4/8 Gorkha Rifles from the Indian Army. Under the ‘Trivandrum Brigade’s command, they trained at a secret high-security spot, keeping details under wraps for safety reasons.

These counter-terrorism exercises show India’s strong push to keep airports and public spaces secure amid evolving dangers.
