BCCI VP Shukla confirms filing nomination for board’s elections

In a big update from Indian cricket, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla announced on Sunday that he’s filed his nomination for the upcoming board elections. He also revealed a full panel ready to lead, with former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas stepping up as the new BCCI president.

Shukla shared the news while speaking to reporters at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. “I’ve come to file my nomination,” he said. The team includes Manhas for president, Shukla himself as vice-president, Devajit Saikia as secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as joint secretary, and Raghuram Bhatt as treasurer. They even have nominees lined up for the governing council. “A new body is forming for the next term—good luck to everyone,” Shukla added.

Mithun Manhas, a seasoned domestic player, officially submitted his nomination for the president’s role right in front of current BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. As things stand, Manhas is the only candidate for the top job, which has sat empty since Roger Binny stepped down in August. Shukla has been handling interim president duties during this time.

Another familiar face in cricket circles, former India spinner Raghuram Bhatt, looks set to join as treasurer. He currently leads the Karnataka State Cricket Association and brings plenty of admin experience to the table.

Manhas, who celebrates his 46th birthday next month, knows cricket inside out. Born in Jammu, he made his mark playing for Delhi before switching to Jammu & Kashmir in 2015 and retiring a year later. Since then, he’s dived into coaching, working with IPL heavyweights like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans. He even served as a batting consultant for Bangladesh’s Under-19 team.

On the field, Manhas shone in domestic cricket for two decades. He racked up 9,714 runs in 157 first-class matches from 1997 to 2017, plus 4,126 runs in 130 List A games and 1,170 in 91 T20s. That makes him one of India’s top run-scorers in the domestic scene.

His name surfaced during an informal chat in Delhi on Saturday, where big names like ICC chairman Jay Shah, Rajeev Shukla, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, DDCA president Rohan Jaitley, and former board secretary Niranjan Shah gathered to discuss the future.

Cricket fans can mark their calendars—the BCCI elections for these key roles happen at the annual general meeting in Mumbai on September 28. This shake-up promises fresh energy for Indian cricket’s governing body.
