In a sharp‑cutting episode of the YouTube program “Why Did They Break Up?”, 41‑year‑old Nomiki Konst slammed her ex‑boyfriend and former New York City mayor, Bill de Blasio, accusing him of a “fear of intimacy” and branding his latest love interest as “vapid.” The podcast also revealed that de Blasio had once entertained the idea of starting a family with her.
“I was told he was open, and even asked me a lot about having kids,” Konst told host Toure. “During a flight to California, we spent the whole trip talking about the process and what it would be like.”
De Blasio, now 64, already has two adult children with former First Lady Chirlane McCray, the pair of whom split in 2023 but have yet to finalize a divorce.
The claim that de Blasio was seriously considering parenthood with Konst directly contradicted earlier reports that dismissed any such rumors. When Toure probed further, Konst confirmed, “Yes, he was interested.”
She described their whirlwind ten‑month romance as a pattern of highs followed by inevitable lows, noting that de Blasio’s penchant for chaos made the relationship unstable. “When things were good, something had to go wrong,” she explained. “I think there might even be a fear of intimacy, because he once said, ‘I’m scared you’re going to hurt me.’”
De Blasio, for his part, downplayed the affair when he invited Roxanna Valenzuela, the mayor of South Tucson, to lunch in September. The pair quickly followed the meeting up at his apartment. Konst later remarked with humor that the lunch “was salad with a side of F–!” after the emotional storm that ensued.
Despite her attempts to reconcile, de Blasio continued to keep in touch with Valenzuela, much to Konst’s dismay. She said she begged Valenzuela to sever the contact, but the mayoral candidate persisted, describing her as “all over the place, whiny, and self‑indulgent.”
The relationship strained further when de Blasio cancelled an upcoming Puerto Rico conference in order to accommodate Valenzuela’s visit to New York. Konst confronted him one last time, accusing the former mayor of ignoring her emotional needs and calling Valenzuela “unserious.”
In a later interview with Page Six, de Blasio admitted that he had a new love interest and expressed regret for not telling Konst sooner. He stated, “I fell in love with someone else and I should have told her sooner. I’m now in a wonderful relationship with Roxanna Valenzuela that we will continue to nurture and keep private.”
