Venkatesh Prasad elected as new KSCA President, Team Game Changers grab major posts

On Sunday, the AGM held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru resulted in former India fast bowler Prasad being elected the new president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Sujith Somasunder, a former India cricketer, will take on the role of vice‑president, while Santosh Menon returns as secretary—he previously held the position from 2019 to 2022. B.N. Madhukar has been chosen as treasurer, and BK Ravi from the competing KN Shanth Kumar team secured the post of joint secretary.

Prasad, who represented India in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs and served as KSCA vice‑president between 2010 and 2013, said that his “Team Game Changers” panel—which swept all the contested seats—aims to bring cricket back to the forefront in the state and restore M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s international reputation.

Backed by former India greats Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, both of whom formerly led the KSCA, Prasad won 749 votes to KN Shanth Kumar’s 588. The victory gives him a chance to deliver on the promises outlined in the manifesto released earlier this year.

Somasunder, who had recently headed education at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, secured 719 votes for vice‑presidency, while D. Vinod Sivappa received 588. Menon won the secretary role with 672 votes against ES Jairam’s 632.

Madhukar obtained 736 votes for treasurer, surpassing MS Vinay’s 571. The Shanth Kumar team celebrated when Ravi amassed 669 votes for joint secretary, narrowly beating AV Shashidhara’s 638.

Two life‑member seats on the managing committee went to VM Manjunath (690 votes) and Sailesh N Poll (618). From the Bengaluru zone, former players Kalpana Venkatachar (764 votes), Avinash Vaidya (691 votes) and Aashish Amarlall (703 votes) secured the three available spots.

These new appointments signal a fresh chapter for the KSCA, which has wrestled with serious challenges following the June 4 stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL 2025 victory parade that claimed 11 lives.

The election process was intensely competitive: several nomination papers were rejected and a High Court case surfaced during the buildup. A total of 1,307 ballots were cast on Sunday—just below the record 1,351 votes in 2013.
