Raipur, Nov 27 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be joining police chiefs for the 60th All‑India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals in Chhattisgarh, according to an official statement released Thursday. The three‑day meeting, which runs from November 28 to 30, will review what’s been achieved so far on key policing challenges and sketch out a forward‑looking plan for building a “Surakshit Bharat” that fits with the national goal of “Viksit Bharat.”
Billed under the theme “Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions,” the conference will focus on pressing issues such as Left‑Wing Extremism, Counter‑terrorism, Disaster Management, Women’s Safety, and the growing use of forensic science and artificial intelligence in policing. In addition, the Prime Minister will present the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to deserving officers.
The event offers a much‑needed forum where senior police leaders and security administrators from across the country can exchange ideas openly on a broad range of national security matters. It also gives participants a chance to discuss operational, infrastructural, and welfare challenges that police forces face, and to share best practices for tackling crime, maintaining law and order, and addressing internal threats.
Modi has long been a champion of this annual gathering, urging honest debate and encouraging new thinking about how the police can better serve society. Business sessions, breakout discussions, and themed dining‑table talks will allow attendees to voice their views directly to the Prime Minister on critical security and policy issues.
Since 2014, the format of the conference has evolved under the Prime Minister’s guidance, with each edition hosted in a different part of the country. Past locations include Guwahati (Assam), the Rann of Kachchh (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Tekanpur (Madhya Pradesh), the Statue of Unity (Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi and Jaipur (Rajasthan), and Bhubaneswar (Odisha). This year’s 60th session will therefore take place in Raipur.
Attendees will include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, several Ministers of State in the Home Ministry, DGPs from all states and union territories, as well as heads of the central police organisations. In a move to infuse fresh perspectives, state and UT Home Departments’ leaders and select senior officers at the rank of DIG and SP will also be present in person.
