UN spokesperson calls for “multinational” solution to fight terrorism over Pahalgam attack

The United Nations is calling for a bigger global effort to fight terrorism, especially after the recent Pahalgam terror attack in India. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric shared these thoughts with during the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday.
Dujarric noted that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has always spoken out against terrorist attacks and plans to keep doing so. “The Secretary-General has condemned every terrorist attack that has occurred, and will continue to do so,” he said. He pointed out the UN’s strong work through its Office of Counterterrorism, where they help countries tackle terrorism not just with law enforcement, but also by cracking down on travel bans and tracking terror financing.
“Terrorism doesn’t respect borders—it’s a problem that crosses nations and demands an international solution,” Dujarric added. He addressed worries from countries like India about cross-border terrorism, stressing that governments must step up. “Every member state needs to control its own borders and build peace with its neighbors,” he said.
Shifting to other global hotspots, Dujarric backed India’s push for dialogue in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “We believe the only way to end the fighting in Ukraine is through talks and diplomacy,” he explained. He echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s messages on this and called for a resolution that follows international law and respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
On the growing number of countries recognizing Palestine, Dujarric highlighted an important UN General Assembly meeting later that day. It will focus on the two-state solution as the key path forward. “This meeting is crucial—we see the two-state solution as the only real answer to the challenges between Israel and the Palestinians,” he said.
