At the‑front of the drama is a harrowing clash that turned deadly in a Chandigarh home on Monday. A 32‑year‑old university employee, Ravi Negi, allegedly bit the life out of his 55‑year‑old mother, Sushila Negi, by slitting her throat with a sharp‑edged weapon. The shooting‑style violence took place during a heated argument that erupted early in the day.
Neighbors heard shouting from inside the house and rushed in to find the victim lying in a pool of blood. Ravi fled immediately, leaving the scene to be sealed by police. A CCTV camera filmed his escape, and investigators recovered the footage later.
Ravi had been working at Panjab University and lived at the house with his mother. His elder son is settled abroad, but the younger sibling’s mental state is under scrutiny. Police say the suspect had “mental distress” before the incident and took advantage of the chaos to flee.
Field teams seized evidence at the crime scene, and the corpse was transported to the Government Multi‑Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 for a post‑mortem. A first information report (FIR) under Section 103 – murder – has been lodged at Sector 39 police station.
Crime Branch Inspector Satwinder Duhan, leading the investigation, wrapped up the case and escorted the accused to Chandigarh from Sonipat, Haryana, where he was apprehended. The family and the men own a front‑door CCTV system that captured Ravi’s escape and helped close the loop with authorities.
Police are still probing possible motives, including domestic disputes and financial pressures. They plan to bring the accused to a local court on Tuesday. The case remains under active investigation as investigators work to uncover the finer details of the tragic family drama.
