New Delhi – 11 Dec (LatestNewsX) – After a week of chaos, IndiGo is gradually returning to business as usual. The carrier announced that it plans to run more than 1,950 flights on Thursday.
The previous week’s turmoil saw thousands of flights cancelled or delayed, choked traffic at the country’s biggest airports and long queues for passengers. A spokesperson told reporters that since 8 Dec all 138 destinations on the airline’s network are now fully linked, and that operations have been steady since 9 Dec.
“IndiGo continues to strengthen its operations, improving its services day by day to now operating 1,900+ flights that seamlessly connect all 138 destinations across our network,” the spokesperson said.
“We expect to run 1,950+ flights today with about 300,000 customers,” he added.
The same official highlighted that the schedule has been largely “reliable” for the last three days, with only weather, technical or other uncontrollable issues causing same‑day cancellations. On 8 Dec the airline flew just over 1,750 flights and cancelled one, on 9 Dec over 1,800 flights with zero cancellations, and on 10 Dec more than 1,900 flights departed with just two cancellations.
“Our commitment to operational excellence has yielded significant efficiency gains, and our on‑time performance has returned to top‑tier industry standards,” he said.
“As the IndiGo team works hand‑in‑hand with authorities to further normalise our operations, we remain focused on safety, efficiency, and support to every customer,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier, IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta revealed that the Board will bring in external technical experts to partner with management and pinpoint the root causes of last week’s widespread disruptions. In a detailed statement, Mehta said the specialists will help make sure such large‑scale failures never recur, and he apologised to those who were affected between 3 and 5 Dec.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) established an eight‑member special team on Wednesday to monitor IndiGo’s operations closely as the carrier treads through ongoing network issues. Two members of the team will operate out of IndiGo’s headquarters to scrutinise daily processes and identify gaps that may be hampering flight operations.
