Cricket Fans Divided Over India-Pakistan Asia Cup Clash Amid Recent Tensions
Cricket lovers across India are buzzing with mixed feelings about the high-stakes India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament kicked off in Dubai on Tuesday, but the upcoming showdown on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium has sparked heated debates. This comes right after a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 tourists lost their lives on April 22 to Pakistan-sponsored militants. Many fans are calling for a boycott, while others say sports should stay separate from politics.
In Mumbai, fan Shubham Chavan shared his torn thoughts with . "The match shouldn’t happen because of everything going on," he said. "But as a true sports lover, it should. India vs Pakistan is always epic—these games go down to the wire, right up to the last over. It’ll be super thrilling, and I bet India wins!"
Over in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, cricket enthusiast Asgar Ali feels strongly against it. "We can’t play this match after such a huge tragedy in our country," he told . "We should boycott it completely—no ifs or buts."
Not everyone agrees, though. Another fan from the region argued, "Sports and war are totally different. We shouldn’t mix them up. I’ll definitely watch this one!"
In Delhi, Praveen Kashyap echoed that excitement. "Everyone wants to see this India Pakistan cricket match," he said. "People have a real passion for sports. Sure, some see it just as a game, but it’s unmissable."
The divide isn’t just among fans—politicians are weighing in too. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for letting the game go ahead. Speaking to the media, he questioned the government’s priorities. "You couldn’t even refuse a cricket match against Pakistan, the same country that targeted our 26 citizens in Pahalgam based on their religion and gunned them down," Owaisi said, referring to the Jammu and Kashmir terror attack.
Owaisi pressed the BJP on the real cost. "Prime Minister, you always say blood and water can’t flow together, and dialogue can’t mix with terrorism. So, how much will the BCCI earn from this one India Pakistan match—Rs 2,000 crore? Rs 3,000 crore? Is that money worth more than the lives of our 26 citizens?" He added, "We stood with those families yesterday, we stand with them today, and we will tomorrow."
Emotions are running high as the Asia Cup India vs Pakistan fixture approaches. With calls to boycott growing louder after the Pahalgam attack, cricket fans remain split—some prioritizing national grief, others the thrill of the game. Will the match bring people together or fuel more debate? Stay tuned as the action unfolds in Dubai.
