Gulshan Devaiah on shooting for intimate scenes with ‘National Crush Girija Oak’: ‘Have become more experienced’
Mumbai, Dec 7 ( LatestNewsX ) – Actor Gulshan Devaiah is being praised for his work in the new web series Perfect Family. While shooting an intimate scene with his co‑star Girija Oak, who is the current “National Crush” on social media, he shared his thoughts on the careful balance required in such moments.
“It’s always very difficult to do such scenes, because there is a line that we cannot cross,” Gulshan told LatestNewsX.
“Simulating intimacy or violence is very tricky, as there is always a boundary you can’t go beyond, yet you still have to create the illusion of it being real. So, you must find ways to do it responsibly,” he added.
“When I am working with someone, trust is key – we have to look out for each other. Building that trust quickly is essential, especially when the other person is a new face on set,” he said.
He also discussed how intimacy coordinators help manage these scenes.
“In some productions, such as ‘Ulajh’, we had a UK‑based intimacy coordinator who guided us step‑by‑step and made the whole process comfortable. Unfortunately, a lot of those shots were cut later – only a fraction remained in the final cut, which is another reality we sometimes face,” Gulshan explained.
Reflecting on his growth, he recalled the early days. “Back when we were filming ‘Hate Story’ in 2012, there were no coordinators; we navigated everything ourselves. Thankfully, Paoli Dam was supportive and helped me feel secure,” he shared.
Talks about Gulshan have highlighted a string of successful projects that once again showcase his talent.
When LatestNewsX inquired about how actors are chosen for shows and films based on their social media following, Goushan responded bluntly, “I don’t give a damn. Social media is a trend. Does it have any real merit? I can’t say.”
“I don’t know if those followers translate into actual subscriptions or ticket sales. Those decisions are made by people who are better informed than I am, and perhaps they think it’s a good idea to cast based on that,” he added.
He concluded, “There are many actors out there who are genuinely good. I don’t want to criticize anyone. People need to find their own path.”
Giving a concrete example, he smiled, stating, “Check my own social media. I don’t even have 300 k followers, yet I keep getting work.”
