RJD MLA dubs Samrat Choudhary ‘Bulldozer Baba’; Dy CM insists drive is about ‘good governance’

Patna: In the midst of the recent bulldozer drives targeting alleged illegal encroachments across Bihar, RJD MP Kumar Sarvjeet took aim at Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday. He dubbed him “Bulldozer Baba” during a session in the Bihar Assembly, sparking a lively debate.
The fourth day of the Winter Session saw the legislature’s House dive into the Governor’s address, with both the ruling and opposition benches trading sharp barbs. The opposition especially slammed the government’s “bulldozer‑driven anti‑encroachment operations,” claiming they’ve ramped up since the new NDA government took power.
RJD MLAs argued that although the government touts itself as clearing illegal encroachments, many of the poor and vulnerable are disproportionately affected, as their makeshift homes are bulldozed under the guise of enforcement. In a somewhat sarcastic tone, Kumar Sarvjeet quipped, “We see in newspapers that journalists are teasing him,” adding that even though the Deputy CM’s name is Samrat, the press has started calling him “Bulldozer Baba.” He went on to say, “Journalists are trying to tarnish our friend’s character. He has just been given the Home Department and became Deputy Chief Minister, and you have immediately nicknamed him Bulldozer Baba,” before urging the Treasury benches: “If you have become Deputy Chief Minister, please don’t allow yourself to be known for demolishing the huts of the poor. This is my humble request to you in this House.”
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary fired back at the opposition, firmly asserting that there is no “bulldozer issue” in Bihar – only a focus on good governance and the rule of law. He clarified, “I want to make two or three things very clear. Nitish Kumar has established good governance in Bihar. There is no bulldozer issue here, nor is my name ‘Bulldozer.’ I am known only as Samrat Choudhary – be clear about that. The court has taken decisions in Bihar, and the court has made all the arrangements.” He went on to say that the court has directed the district administration, and enforcement of those orders is underway across the state. Strict action will continue against all forms of mafia—whether sand, land, or liquor.
“I can guarantee that no one will be spared under Nitish Kumar’s leadership,” Choudhary assured the House, underscoring the government’s tough stance. He also highlighted the NDA government’s commitment to supporting the poor, noting that the Central government has already provided permanent homes to 60 million economically weaker families under various housing schemes, and that the state remains steadfast in backing them.
