It’s a heartwarming day for Bollywood besties Rani Mukerji and Vaibhavi Merchant, who both scooped up prestigious National Film Awards in their fields. Rani grabbed the Best Actress honor for her powerful role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, while Vaibhavi earned the Best Choreography award for the lively track "Dhindhora Baje Re" from Karan Johar’s hit Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
These two have long been each other’s biggest supporters, and Tuesday’s ceremony brought that out in full force. As Vaibhavi walked up to the stage at Vigyan Bhawan to accept her award from President Droupadi Murmu, Rani stood there grinning ear-to-ear, phone in hand to snap the joyful moment. Check out the sweet clip shared on Instagram by Asian News International—pure friendship goals.
The National Film Awards winners got the big reveal back in August, sparking excitement across Bollywood. Vaibhavi poured out her thanks in an emotional Instagram post that same month. "Today is an extremely special day," she wrote. "As an artist, there’s no greater honor than the government recognizing your work. Winning the National Award for ‘Dhindora Baje Re’—25 years after my first for ‘Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje’—leaves me overwhelmed and speechless."
She gave a shoutout to Karan Johar for making Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani happen and including her in such a special project. Fun fact: That earlier win came for her choreography in the 1999 classic Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, marking the start of an incredible career in Bollywood dance.
