PM Modi meets Egyptian FM, hails President Sisi’s ‘crucial role’ in Gaza Peace agreement

New Delhi, Oct 17 – After a two‑day visit, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

The meeting—held at the Prime Minister’s residence—focused on deepening India‑Egypt ties and the recent Gaza Peace Agreement.

“You’re welcome, Dr Abdelatty,” Modi said in a post to X (formerly Twitter). “I thanked President Sisi for his key role in the Gaza cease‑fire. Our strategic partnership is growing stronger for the benefit of both peoples and the region.”

Modi also congratulated President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi on Egypt’s diplomatic work that helped broker the Gaza agreement. He said he hopes the deal will bring lasting peace to the wider Middle East.

During the talks, Abdelatty briefed Modi on the first India‑Egypt Strategic Dialogue that began the earlier day. The Prime Minister’s office said the dialogue marked progress in trade, technology, energy, defence and people‑to‑people links.

Abdelatty is visiting India for the first time as foreign minister. He joined External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for the first Strategic Dialogue.
Jaishankar highlighted the shared commitment of India and Egypt to the Global South and to greater independence for all nations. He said the partnership has moved from a “strategic partnership” status in 2023 to a real, working alliance covering defence, trade, fintech, pharma, space and green technology.

The minister also noted how Egypt helped evacuate Indian citizens in June 2025 and praised India’s rapid response after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. He welcomed the multi‑party parliamentary delegation that visited Egypt in the aftermath.

India and Egypt emphasize old‑civilization ties, with culture and people exchanges becoming a major part of their growing relationship.
