India’s ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, kicked off a busy week of diplomacy with a key meeting in Washington, DC. On October 3, he sat down with Republican Congressman Greg Murphy from North Carolina to chat about the latest in India-US relations.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kwatra called it an “engaging conversation.” They covered hot topics like trade, defense, and technology between the two countries. Kwatra also spotlighted the big wins from legal mobility programs, especially in healthcare, tech, and research, and how these boost the US in the long run. Both sides agreed to team up more closely to build stronger India-US ties.
This comes on the heels of Kwatra’s earlier talks. Back on September 19, he met with Republican Majority Leader Steve Scalise. Their discussion dove into positive steps forward in economic, defense, and energy sectors, all aimed at deepening the bilateral strategic partnership. Scalise even passed along warm birthday wishes for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
That same day, Kwatra took the stage at the Quantum World Congress 2025. In his keynote address titled “The Quantum Frontier: A Perspective from India,” he shared India’s exciting progress in quantum technology and the huge potential for deeper India-US cooperation in this cutting-edge field.
Just a day before, on September 18, Kwatra visited the Pentagon for a session with Elbridge Colby, the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Colby hosted the meeting and praised it as a “valuable discussion.” He noted that the US Department of Defense is eager to ramp up critical defense cooperation with India.
Kwatra echoed the enthusiasm on X, describing their talk as “productive.” They reviewed ongoing initiatives in India-US defense cooperation and mapped out next steps. He appreciated Colby’s expertise and steady support for the strategic partnership.
These meetings highlight the growing momentum in India-US relations, from trade and technology to defense and quantum innovation, as both nations work to strengthen their alliance.
