Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) blasted the Mann-led government in Punjab on Tuesday for squandering crores of public money on a “sham” Vidhan Sabha session in Anandpur Sahib, insisting that the same funds could have upgraded the city’s infrastructure.
In a statement, Akali Dal MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia said that the AAP administration could have used the 350th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom to accelerate Anandpur Sahib’s development, but instead “chose to play dirty politics on such a pious occasion”.
She added that the AAP government “wasting” crores of rupees on a one‑day “sham” session produced zero results. Kaur claimed the whole exercise benefited only a tent owner.
The MLA noted that Punjabis were shocked to see Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s conduct; rather than cooperating with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to organise a religious event for the anniversary, he attacked the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Kaur reminded the crowd that previous administrations had leveraged historic milestones to bring major projects to the state. She recalled that during the 300th Khalsa Sajna Diwas in 1999, the then Parkash Singh Badal government launched “Virasat e Khalsa” with a 300‑crore investment, and that the Guru Gobind Singh Bathinda refinery, worth 22 000 crores, and the Guru Granth Sahib World University in Fatehgarh Sahib were also products of earlier governments.
Kaur accused the AAP government of wasting public money and engaging in “dirty politics” solely to please its “boss Arvind Kejriwal”. She warned that Punjabis would never forget CM Mann’s “cheap theatrics” and that the party would suffer a lasting lesson from the alleged looting of public funds.
