Thanksgiving miracle: 82-year-old woman’s car slammed into by freight train in NJ, but she only suffers minor injuries
It turned into a Thanksgiving miracle when an 82‑year‑old New Jersey woman escaped serious harm after a freight train slammed into her car and hurled it a quarter mile down the tracks.
She had pulled over around 3:05 p.m. on Route 535 near Stults Road because she saw the crossing lights for the oncoming train, according to the South Brunswick Police Department – and she didn’t realize she had actually stopped on the rail line. Conrail’s locomotive struck the sedan, sending it tumbling a full 0.4 miles along the tracks before authorities pulled it back and cleared the road, winding up shutting the lane for two hours.
Images posted on social media showed the quiet, gray car stranded mid‑tracks with the powerful train barreling toward it. An Instagram post from the local police cited the woman’s safe arrival at a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a minor leg injury. The police say the incident is still under investigation.
