In New Delhi on Saturday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said it seized eight immovable properties linked to the Popular Front of India (PFI). The 8 sites are worth more than ₹67 crore (about $8.5 million).
The ED told reporters that the properties were held in the names of several trusts and foundations, including the Green Valley Foundation, the Alappuzha Social Cultural and Education Trust, the Pandalam Educational and Cultural Trust in Pathanamthitta, as well as the Islamic Centre Trust in Wayanad and the Haritham Foundation in Poovanchina. The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) – PFI’s political wing – also owns land in Trivandrum.
“We have already attached movable and immovable property worth ₹61.98 crore through nine provisional attachment orders in this case,” the ED said. The new attachment brings the total to about ₹129 crore.
Investigators found that PFI used the properties to run Physical Education (PE) training camps. The camps taught “offensive and defensive manoeuvres” using arms and aimed to ready members for a “Jihadist” agenda. The training was conducted under the guise of primary and secondary PE classes.
The ED traced the organisation’s roots back to the banned Jamaat‑e‑Islami, which lost property buttons after the Babri Masjid demolition. Many former students of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) became PFI leaders. Senior PFI members later set up the trusts that now hold the seized properties.
The move highlights India’s crackdown on terror funding. By attaching assets worth roughly ₹129 crore (about $17 million), the ED signals its determination to cut off financial resources that fuel extremist activities in the country.
