Patna – Three days after a 15‑year‑old girl was reported to have taken her own life by leaping from a high‑rise building, her relatives and nearby residents gathered on Nala Road to protest. They say the girl was not a suicide victim but a rape survivor who was then pushed off the roof of the Sulakshana Palace Apartments.
The family arrived at the scene to a huge uproar, demanding that the police arrest those they hold accountable. In anger over what they see as a sluggish police response, the crowd set a nearby road ablaze, creating a massive traffic jam. They chanted slogans, calling for Bihar’s Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary to come to the scene, with one chant reading, “Call Samrat Choudhary, can you not see the Jungle Raj now?”
Family members insisted that the girl’s death was a crime rather than an accidental fall. The victim’s brother urged justice, saying, “We demand the arrest of the accused and justice for my sister. This matter must reach our Home Minister, Samrat Chaudhary. My sister was allegedly raped before being pushed from the rooftop of the building.”
As the protest thickened, a sizable police force was dispatched. Conflict between protesters and officers escalated, leading to the brief seizure of DSP Rajesh Ranjan by demonstrators. With the situation spiralling, officers deployed a mild lathi charge to break up the crowd. In the wake of the unrest, authorities shut down Nala Road and nearby shops to restore order.
Police officials reassured the public that they were conducting a thorough investigation, vowing that no suspect would slip through the cracks. They briefly detained several women for questioning and cleared the road of barricades after the fire was put out. An FSL team had already examined the scene, and CCTV footage from the apartment building and its surroundings is under review. At the time of the incident, residents of the building had not identified the girl.
While the investigation continued, family members and local residents took to the streets once more, demanding that the case be treated as suspicious and that proper justice be served for the minor.
