Top Trump counter-terror official blames Biden admin’s lax vetting for attack on National Guard troops, warns 18K ‘known and suspected’ terrorists in US

Ranking Member Bennie Thompson of Mississippi (D) took issue with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, arguing that the Biden administration’s lax vetting processes were behind the DC National Guard shooting that occurred before Thanksgiving. Both Noem and Kent opposed this view, with the homeland secretary taking issue with Thompson’s characterisation of the incident— which claimed one guard was killed and another injured—as merely an “unfortunate situation.”
Noem told Thompson that “It was a terrorist attack.”
Kent added that “[Rahmanullah Lakanwal] was vetted to serve as a soldier in Afghanistan, and that vetting standard was used by the Biden administration as a ruse to bring him here.” He continued, “Had we followed the standard operating procedures for special immigrant visas from that individual, and none of the allies welcome, people would have come to America. That’s on Joe Biden.”
Kent revealed that up to 18,000 terrorists entered the United States during the Biden presidency. “There’s 18,000 known and suspected terrorists in the country right now that came in under Joe Biden’s watch,” the NCTC director told Representative August Pfluger (R‑Texas).
