CM Bhupendra Patel wins hearts in Vadodara, listens to visually-impaired student at Urban Innovation Summit

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently won hearts with his warm interaction with a visually impaired student at the IELTS Urban Innovation and Infrastructure Summit in Vadodara. The touching moment happened when kids from Urmi School for Special Needs welcomed him.
One of the students, 10th-grader Gauri Shardul, who is visually impaired, gifted Patel a hand-drawn sketch as a gesture of respect. Patel kindly passed her the microphone and listened attentively as she shared her thoughts on the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, or Accessible India Campaign. She explained how this initiative has truly made life better for people with disabilities in India.
Speaking to reporters, Gauri praised Patel’s leadership and said she trusts him to act on her suggestions. “I have full faith that the Chief Minister will take action,” she added confidently.
Despite her visual challenges, Gauri keeps up with her studies using a computer and dreams big. She wants to crack the UPSC exam and become an IAS officer, a job she sees as full of dignity and respect. Her story inspired everyone at the event, and Urmi School, which supports over 80 special children, highlighted her incredible determination.
This encounter once again showed Patel’s caring side, especially towards kids with special needs, and it struck a chord with people in Vadodara.
On a broader note, Gujarat has ramped up its efforts to improve education infrastructure. The state runs around 34,500 government schools, including nearly 32,000 primary ones. Through the Mission Schools of Excellence program, the government is building and upgrading thousands of classrooms, while adding smart classrooms and computer labs to boost learning.
To help students, schemes like Namo Lakshmi provide financial aid to girls in classes 9 to 12, and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana encourages science education for higher classes. Challenges persist, such as over 1,600 primary schools with just one teacher, but these initiatives focus on enhancing education quality, especially in rural and underserved areas of Gujarat.
